Prefabricated wooden houses have many advantages therefore they are much used in countries which produce wood. First, it is a tradition- houses are built since a long time (even before concrete invention) and they are continuously improved. They are ecological. They are prefabricated what allows their realization on place in very short terms and without surcharge of materials. Wood is preferred as building material because it creates a pleasant atmosphere in the house. This is due to its ability to regulate the humidity by absorbing and emitting moisture making the dry air pleasant. This feature applies to plasterboard what is the major material in these buildings.

Wood-framed buildings are light - 7 to 10 times lighter than those built traditionally, which leads to lower costs for foundations (they are solid – concrete or ferro-concrete) and makes them more resistant to earthquakes. Wooden houses are energy efficient and they have very good level of sound isolation- EPS (Styrofoam) wall with total thickness of 14.5cm could be compared to 38cm brick wall. This construction type avoids processes caused by humidity in the traditional solid construction. We should point out the lower price, saving space (about 10%) and easy and quick adjustment according to emerging needs.

But despite the mentioned advantages we should point out that Bulgaria doesn’t have tradition in building of prefabricated wooden houses which is often a reason for low quality production. They are also some other reasons such as inappropriate wood material, bad treatment in sawing, drying, impregnation, etc. That is why we import wood material from Germany. Bad treatment technology of raw material might cause serious consequences regarding mechanical strength, fire, noise, heat and termite resistance in the future houses. We should be reasonable in seeking and achieving very low prices.
